สิ่งที่ทำให้มนุษย์แตกต่างและสูงส่งไปกว่าสิ่งมีชีวิตอื่นๆก็คือ มนุษย์ได้รับสติปัญญาและเสรีภาพในการเลือกปฏิบัติ  ดังนั้น มนุษย์จึงไม่ได้ถูกสร้างขึ้นมาเพียงเพื่อกิน นอน ถ่าย สืบพันธุ์และตายไปเยี่ยงสัตว์ทั้งหลายโดยไม่ต้องรับผิดชอบต่อสิ่งที่ตัวเองกระทำไว้เมื่อมีชีวิตในโลกนี้

ทดสอบอะไร?

คำตอบคือ ทดสอบว่ามนุษย์จะเชื่อ (Believe) ในการมีอยู่ของพระเจ้าและจะเชื่อฟัง (Obey) พระองค์หรือไม่  สองสิ่งนี้ต้องมีอยู่คู่กัน  

วัตถุประสงค์ดังกล่าวนี้พระเจ้าได้สาธิตให้อาดัมเห็นต่อหน้าตาต่อตาแล้วเมื่อพระองค์สร้างอาดัมขึ้นมาเป็นมนุษย์คนแรกและประทานความรู้ต่างๆให้แก่เขา  หลังจากนั้น  พระองค์ได้บัญชาทุกสรรพสิ่งในอาณาจักรของพระองค์ให้ก้มกราบอาดัม  ทุกสิ่งก้มกราบอาดัมตามคำบัญชาของพระองค์โดยไม่ปฏิเสธหรืออิดเอื้อน  ยกเว้นอิบลีสที่ไม่ยอมทำตาม

What makes humans different and higher than other creatures is that humans have intelligence and freedom of choice. Therefore, humans were not created just to eat, sleep, poop, reproduce and die like animals without having to take responsibility for what they do while living in this world.

The Quran says that God did not create everything for fun or entertainment, but He had a purpose in creating. When God created everything to benefit humans, He also had a purpose in creating humans. One of the purposes was to test humans because humans have intelligence and freedom of choice.

Testing what?

The answer is to test whether humans will believe in the existence of God and obey Him. These two things must exist together.

This purpose was demonstrated by God to Adam before his eyes when He created Adam as the first human being and gave him knowledge. After that, He commanded all things in His kingdom to bow to Adam. Everything bowed to Adam according to His command without refusing or hesitating, except for Iblis who refused to do so.

Iblis is a representative of a species of creatures called “jinn”, similar to Adam whom God used to represent the human race. The difference is that the jinn race existed before the creation of Adam and were created from fire, while humans were created from clay. However, what is similar between jinn and humans is that both jinn and humans have intelligence and free will, both good and evil. The evil jinn is called Satan or Satan.

The demonstration to Adam of the purpose of creating him as the father of the human race began when Iblis disobeyed God’s command even though he accepted and believed in the existence of the Creator of all things. However, he disobeyed. When Iblis was asked why he disobeyed, his answer was that Adam was created from clay, but he was created from fire. He was proud that his origin was from fire. Adam was created from clay, why should he bow down to Adam who had a lower origin?

Disobedience is a rejection of the authority of God, the owner of the universe. Therefore, Iblis must be punished like a soldier who disobeys the orders of his commander. But Iblis asked God to delay his punishment until the Day of Resurrection and he would deceive Adam and his descendants to show Him that few Adam and his descendants would be grateful to Him. Therefore, in order to achieve the purpose of creating man, He delayed the punishment of Iblis. But God told him that no matter how cunning he was, he could not deceive a servant who believed in Him.

Iblis's disobedience to God in front of Adam was to show Adam the consequences of disobeying God that he would be punished.

Even though he saw the consequences of disobeying God, Adam fell for Iblis's deception and did not forget God's command to go near a certain tree. Disobeying God's command caused Adam and his spouse Eve to leave the Garden of bliss.

Before Adam and Eve were sent to this world, God had also instructed Adam and Eve that Iblis would come to this world and would be their enemy until the Day of Resurrection.
