โรงพยาบาลอิสลามในอดีต

๑.โรงพยาบาลอะฎอดีในเมืองแบกแดด
โรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้สร้างโดยอะฎอด อัลเดาละฮฺ อิบนุ บะวัยฮฺ ในปีฮ.ศ.ที่ ๓๗๑ หลังจากอัรรอซี นายแพทย์ผุ้มีชื่อเสียงได้เลือกทำเลที่ตั้งของโรงพยาบาลด้วยการนำเนื้อ ๔ ชิ้นไปวางตามจุดต่างๆของเมืองแบกแดดในเวลากลางคืน และท่านได้เลือกชิ้นเนื้อที่มีกลิ่นดีที่สุดเพื่อตัดสินใจเลือกสถานที่ตั้งของโรงพยาบาลต่อไป และต่อมาโรงพยาบาลได้ถูกสร้างตรงบริเวณของเนื้อชิ้นนั้นและมีการใช้งบประมาณจำนวนมากในการสร้างครั้งนั้น  แพทย์ ๒๔ ท่านถูกแต่งตั้งให้ทำหน้าที่ในโรงพยาบาลนี้ พร้อมด้วยสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกและสิ่งจำเป็นต่างๆ เช่น ห้องสมุดทางด้านวิทยาศาสตร์  เภสัชกรรม(ห้องผลิตยา) ห้องครัวและห้องเสบียง  ในปี ฮ.ศ.ที่ ๔๔๙ คอลีฟะฮฺอัลกออิมบิอัมรุลลอฮฺได้ปรับปรุงโรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้ใหม่และได้รวบรวมวัคซีนและยาที่หายากต่างๆเข้ามาไว้ในโรงพยาบาล เขาได้จัดเตรียมเตียงนอนและผ้าห่ม รวมทั้ง ยาหอม หมอน คนคอยดูแล แพทย์และพนักงานทำความสะอาดไว้สำหรับผู้ป่วย ในโรงพยาบาลมีคนเฝ้าประตูและห้องน้ำ ถัดจากตัวโรงพยาบาลจะเป็นสวนที่มีผลไม่และพืชผักทุกชนิด และเรือในทะเลสาบไว้สำหรับรับส่งคนยากจนและขัดสน แพทย์จะทำงานเป็น ๒ ช่วง คือผลัดเช้าและเย็น และแพทย์บางคนจะต้องอยู่ค้างคืนกับผู้ป่วย(ผลัดดึก)


๒.โรงพยาบาลนูรีในเมืองดามัสกัส
โรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้สร้างโดยผู้ปกครองและกษัตริย์ผู้ทรงความยุติธรรม คือ นูรุดดีน อัชชะฮีดในปี ฮ.ศ.ที่ ๕๔๙ หรือ ค.ศ.๑๑๕๔  ใช้เงินที่ได้รับจากค่าไถ่ตัวเชลยของกษัตริย์แฟรงกิช เมื่อสร้างเสร็จใหม่ๆ โรงพยาบาลนี้ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นโรงพยาบาลที่สวยที่สุดเท่าที่เคยมีการสร้างมาก่อนทั่วโลก ท่านคอลีฟะฮฺได้กำหนดเงื่อนไขว่า โรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้เป็นดรงพยาบาลสำหรับคนยากจนและขัดสน แต่ถ้าคนร่ำรวยคนใดต้องการเวชภัณทืจากโรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้ จะต้องได้รับอนุญาตจากท่านเท่านั้น  และเวชภัณท์ทุกชนิดมีบริการฟรีสำหรับทุกคนที่ต้องการ

นักเดินทางชื่อ อิบนุ ญุบัยรฺเดินทางมาถึงโรงพยาบาลในปี ฮ.ศ. ๕๘๐ เขาได้อธิบายถึงการดูแลผู้ป่วย การตรวจรักษาของแพทย์ที่นี่ ตลอดจนการจัดเตรียมยาและอาหารที่จำเป็นสำหรับผู้ป่วย มีแผนกพิเศษสำหรับผู้ป่วยทางจิต สถานที่ที่คนวิกลจริตถูกล่ามด้วยโซ่ในขณะที่พวกเขากำลังรับการรักษาและให้อาหาร สิ่งหนึ่งที่นักประวัติศาสตร์ได้กล่าวถึงว่า ในปีฮ.ศ. ๘๓๑ คนที่ไม่ใช่มุสลิมคนหนึ่ง(ผู้มีลักษณะภูมิฐานและรสนิยมชั้นสูง)มาท่องเที่ยวเมืองดามัสกัสและเมื่อเขาเข้าไปยังโรงพยาบาลนูรีและเห็นแพทย์จำนวนมากและเห็นการรักษาผู้ป่วยอย่างดีและอาหารที่ดีและสิ่งที่ดีต่างๆมากมายในโรงพยาบาล เขาจึงต้องการทดสอบความรู้ของแพทย์ ดังนั้น เขาจึงแกล้งทำเป็นป่วย และนอนพักในโรงพยาบาลเป็นเวลา ๓ วัน หัวหน้าแพทย์มาตรวจร่างกายเขาหลายครั้ง และเมื่อแพทย์ตรวจชีพจรของเขาจึงรู้ว่าเขาไม่ได้ป่วยแลเขาเพียงแค่ต้องการทดสอบความรู้ของแพทย์เท่านั้น ดังนั้น หัวหน้าแพทย์จึงสั่งอาหารดีๆให้กับเขา ไก่ตัวโตๆ ของหวานต่างๆ เครื่องดื่มและผลไม้ทุกชนิด หลังจากนั้น ๓ วัน หัวหน้าแพทย์ได้เขียนข้อความถึงเขาว่า “สำหรับเรา การเลี้ยงดูแขกอย่างน้อยเป็นเวลา ๓ วัน...” จากข้อความนี้ นักท่องเที่ยวคนนั้นรู้ว่า พวกแพทย์ทราบถึงสิ่งที่เขากำลังกระทำอยู่และการปฏิบัติของโรงพยาบาลที่มีต่อเขาตลอดเวลาที่เขาอยู่ในโรงพยาบาลก็คือการต้อนรับแขกนั่นเอง
โรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้เปิดให้บริการเช่นนี้จนถึงปีฮ.ศ.ที่ ๑๓๑๗ เมื่อโรงพยาบาลอัลฆุรอบาอฺถูกสร้างขึ้น ซึ่งปัจจุบันโรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้อย่ภายใต้การดูแของวิยลัยแพทย์แห่งมหาวิทยาลัยซีเรีย ดังนั้น โรงพยาบาลนูรีจึงถูกปิดลงและตึกของโรงพยาบาลถูกเปลี่ยนเป็นโรงเรียนเอกชน

๓.โรงพยาบาลมันซูรี
หรือที่รู้จักกันว่า “โรงพยาบาลกอลาวูน” โรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้เคยเป็นบ้านของผู้ปกครองท่านหนึ่งซึ่งกษัตริย์อัลมันซูร ซัยฟุดดีน กอลาวูนดัดแปลงเป็นโรงพยาบาลสาธารณะในปีฮ.ศ.ที่ ๖๘๓ หรือ ค.ศ. ๑๒๘๔ กองทุนวะกอฟถูกก่อตั้งขึ้นเพื่อสนับสนุนด้านการเงินจำนวน ๑ พันดิรฮัมต่อปี และติดกับโรงพยาบาลจะเป็นมัสยิด โรงเรียนและห้องสมุดสำหรับเด็กกำพร้า เหตุผลของการสร้างโรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้มาจากเหตุการณ์หนึ่งในขณะที่กษัตริย์อัลมันซูร กอลาวูนกำลังนำทัพเผชิญหน้ากับโรมัน ในช่วงสงครามอัซซอฮิร บัยบัรซฺในปี ค.ศ.๑๒๗๕ ท่านมีอาการเจ็บป่วยในขณะที่อยู่ในเมืองดามัสกัส แพทย์ได้ดูแลรักษาท่านด้วยยาที่นำมาจากโรงพยาบาลนูรีและท่านอาการของหายก็เป็นปกติ ต่อมาท่านได้ไปเยี่ยมโรงพยาบาลด้วยตนเอง ท่านประทับใจมาก ดังนั้น ท่านจึงสาบานต่ออัลลอฮฺว่าถ้าท่านดำรงตำแหน่งเป็นกษัตริย์ ท่านจะสร้างโรงพยาบาลเช่นนี้ด้วย ดังนั้น เมื่อท่านดำรงตำแหน่งเป็นซุลฏอน ท่านซื้อบ้านหลังนี้และดัดแปลงเป็นโรงพยาบาลและระบบและการจัดการของโรงพยาบาลเป็นสิ่งแปลกที่น่าอัศจรรย์ที่สุดในโลก ท่านอนุญาตให้ประชาชนทุกคนเข้ารับการรักษาและใช้บริการจากโรงพยาบาล ทั้งผู้ชายและผู้หญิง อิสระชนและทาส กษัตริย์และประชาชนทั่วไป  เมื่อผู้ป่วยหายเป็นปกติและสามารถออกจากโรงพยาบาลได้ พวกเขาจะได้รับชุดใหม่  และใครเสียชีวิตจะมีจัดเตรียมกุบูร การห่อศพและฝังให้ แพทย์จะถูกแต่งตั้งให้ทำงานในสาขาต่างๆ และพนักงานทำความสะอาดและบริกรถูกจ้างมาเพื่อบริการผู้ป่วย ดูแลและทำความสะอาดผู้ป่วย เช่น ซักเสื้อผ้าและช่วยผู้ป่วยชำระล้างร่างกาย เป็นต้น ผู้ป่วยแต่ละคนจะมีคนคอยบริการ ๒ คนและผู้ป่วยแต่ละคนจะมีเตียงนอนพร้อมเครื่องนอนทุกอย่าง ผู้ป่วยจะถูกแยกเป็นแผนกต่างๆและแต่ละแผนกจะมีพื้นที่สำหรับหัวหน้าแพทย์เพื่อบรรยายให้ความรู้แก่นักเรียนแพทย์ สิ่งที่น่าอัศจรรย์ใจอีกอย่างหนึ่งของโรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้คือการรับบริการไม่ได้จำกัดเฉพาะผู้ป่วยที่ถูกนำเข้าและพักรักษาตัวอยู่ในโรงพยาบาลเท่านั้น  เพราะว่าคนทั่วไปที่ไม่ได้เจ็บป่วยก็สามารถขอยาบำรุง อาหารและเวชภัณท์ต่างๆที่เขาต้องการได้ การบริการอย่างมีมนุษยธรรมของโรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้คือสิ่งที่ยอดเยี่ยมมากซึ่งจักษุแพทย์ท่านหนึ่งของโรงพยาบาลกล่าวว่า ในแต่ละวันเขาให้การรักษาผู้ป่วยจำนวน ๔ พันคน รวมทั้งผู้ป่วยใน ผู้ที่กำลังหายดีและผู้ที่เพิ่งมีอาการ  และไม่มีผู้ป่วยคนใดที่หายดีแล้วจะได้รับอนุญาตให้ออกจากโรงพยาบาลจนกว่าเขาจะได้รับเสื้อผ้าชุดใหม่และเงินจำนวนหนึ่งเพื่อใช้จ่ายในสิ่งที่จำเป็นเพื่อเขาจะได้ไม่ถูกบีบบังคับให้ทำงานหนักทันทีหลังจากหายป่วย
สิ่งที่น่าทึ่งอีกอย่างหนึ่งของโรงพยาบาลแห่งนี้คือ สิ่งที่ถูกระบุในสัญญาวะกอฟว่า ผู้ป่วยจะต้องได้รับบริการอาหารด้วยภาชนะที่ไม่เคยถูกใช้โดยผู้ป่วยคนอื่นมาก่อน ฉะนั้น มันจึงถูกห่อหุ้มอย่างดีก่อนนำมาให้ผู้ป่วย

อีกสิ่งหนึ่งที่น่าทึ่งของโรงพยาบาลคือ ผู้ป่วยที่มีปัญหาการนอนไม่หลับ เขาสามารถไปยังห้องเฉพาะที่พวกเขาสามารถผ่อนคลายด้วยการฟังเสียงที่ไพเราะหรือฟังนิทานหรือเรื่องเล่าที่ถูกเล่าโดยนักเล่าเรื่อง สำหรับคนที่กำลังหายเป็นปกติ การละเล่นที่น่าเพลิดเพลินหรือการแสดงของชนพื้นเมืองต่างๆจะถูกจัดไว้ให้พวกเขา  มุอัซซินประจำมัสยิดที่อยู่ติดกับโรงพยาบาลจะอะซานก่อนเวลาละหมาดฟาญัร(ซุบฮฺ) ๒ ชั่วโมง และมีการร้องอะนาชีดด้วยน้ำเสียงอันไพเราะเพื่อช่วยลดอาการปวดของผู้ที่นอนไม่หลับ

การปฏิบัติเช่นนี้ดำเนินเรื่อยมาจนกระทั่งถึงยุคสมัยแห่งการล่าอาณานิคมของฝรั่งเศสในปี ค.ศ.๑๗๙๘  นักวิชาการชาวฝรั่งเศสเห็นสิ่งเหล่านั้นด้วยตาของพวกเขาเองและได้บันทึกสิ่งที่พวกเขาได้เห็นเอาไว้ สิ่งนี้คือการรักษาที่โลกตะวันตกเพิ่งถูกค้นพบเมื่อเร็วๆนี้เอง
สิ่งนี้ทำให้ฉันนึกถึงสิ่งที่ฉันเคยอ่านเกี่ยวกับเมืองตริโปลี ที่มีกองทุนวะกอฟที่แปลกประหลาดถูกก่อตั้งขึ้นเพื่อจ้างคน ๒ คนให้เดินไปตามโรงพยาบาลทุกวันและคุยกันพอให้ผู้ป่วยได้ยิน ด้วยการพูดถึงอาการที่ดีขึ้นและความมีชีวิตชีวามากขึ้นของผู้ป่วย และอื่นๆ

“รางวัลที่ดีที่สุดที่ท่านจะได้รับนั้นมาจากการปฏิบัติงานที่หนักและยากลำบาก ซึ่งงานเช่นนี้จะมีผลตอบแทนมหาศาล  นี่คือสิ่งที่ทุกคนควรกระทำให้มากที่สุด สิ่งที่ดีที่สุดซึ่งทุกคนสามารถมุ่งมั่นไปสู่มันคือสิ่งที่จะนำผลประโยชน์และความพึงพอใจมาให้แก่เขามากที่สุด ทั้งให้ประโยชน์แก่คนรุ่นแรกและขยายต่อไปเรื่อยๆหลังจากนั้น  สิ่งนั้นคือการวะกอฟ คือสิ่งที่มีประโยชน์ต่อทุกคนและรางวัลการตอบแทนจะได้รับอย่างต่อเนื่อง ผลตอบแทนของการวะกอฟยิ่งใหญ่มาก เพราะเป็นการตอบแทนด้วยสวรรค์และเป็นการนำผู้วะกอฟให้ใกล้ชิดกับความพึงพอใจของผู้ที่ทรงเมตตายิ่ง  การบริจาคเช่นนี้คือสินสมรสของอัลฮูรุลอัยนฺและการใช้จ่ายเช่นนี้นำมาซึ่งขุมทรัพย์แห่งการตอบแทนอันยิ่งใหญ่ มันเป็นสิ่งที่เห็นได้ชัดว่า สิ่งนี้ทำให้ผู้ป่วยและคนยากจนมีความสุขอย่างมาก และมันนำความสุขมาสู่หัวใจที่แตกสลาย มันทำให้พวกเขาประหยัดรายได้ของตนเองด้วยการให้ที่พักและการรักษาแก่พวกเขา การตอบแทน(จากอัลลอฮฺ)สำหรับการวะกอฟนี้ไม่สามารถคำนวณได้  ดังนั้น จงแจ้งข่าวดีแก่ผู้ที่ทำการค้ากับพระเจ้าของเขา ผู้ทรงเกรียงไกร ผู้ทรงอภัยยิ่ง ผู้ที่เฝ้ามองเขาตลอดเวลาและทรงรู้ความลับและความคิดที่อยู่คนในใจของเขา เพราะเขาให้การยืมที่ดีแก่พระองค์ ด้วยทรัพย์สินและความสามารถที่เขามี ด้วยการได้รับการตอบแทนเช่นนี้ ทำให้เขาคือคนหนึ่งในบรรดาผู้ประสบความสำเร็จ เพราะเขาช่วยเหลือมุสลิมที่ยากจนด้วยการบรรเทาความเจ็บปวดของเขาและการรักษาโรคภัยไข้เจ็บของเขาและการช่วยเหลือของเขาจะช่วยปกป้องเขาจากการลงโทษจากพระเจ้าของเขาในวันกิยามะฮฺ  ความหวังคือว่ามันจะช่วยทำให้เขามีตำแหน่งที่ยิ่งใหญ่ต่อหน้าอัลลอฮฺและจะนำเขาให้ใกล้ชิดกับพระองค์เพื่อเขาจะได้ไม่ต้องกลัวการอธรรมใดๆและการสูญเสีย(รางวัลของเขา)(อัลกุรอาน ๒๐:๑๑๒)และสิ่งนั้นจะเป็นความดีสำหรับเขาซึ่งจะลบล้างความผิดให้แก่เขา เมื่อผู้ปกครองของเราคือซุลฏอนอัลมันซูร ผู้ทรงความรู้และผู้ยุติธรรม ทราบเรื่องนี้ ท่านได้ออกคำสั่งให้ก่อตั้งกองทุนวะกอฟสำหรับโรงพยาบาลมันซูรีทันที(ที่คือข้อตกลงของกองทุนวะกอฟได้ให้คำอธิบายและบอกตำแหน่งที่ตั้งของโรงพยาบาล และทรัพยากรอื่นๆของโรงพยาบาล) มันถูกตั้งขึ้นเพื่อรักษาผู้ป่วยมุสลิม ทั้ผู้ชายและผู้หญิง คนร่ำรวยและคนยากจน ในไคโรและชานเมือง ผู้ที่อาศัยอยู่ที่นั่นและผู้ที่มาจากภูมิภาคและจังหวัดต่างๆของอียิปต์ทุกคนและทุกชนิดของการเจ็บป่วย ไม่ว่าเป็นหนักหรือเบา ง่ายหรือยาก หรือโรคที่เกี่ยวกับสมรรถภาพต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นโรคภายในหรือภายนอก การผิดปกติทางด้านจิตใจ เพราะการป้องกันรักษาคือหนึ่งในสิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดที่มนุษย์ต้องการโดยการใช้ยาที่ได้รับการรับรองจากแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ  ประชาชนที่เข้ารับการรักษาในโรงพยาบาลมีทั้งเป็นกลุ่มหรือตามลำพัง ผู้สูงอายุและคนหนุ่มสาว  ผู้ใหญ่และเด็ก ผู้หญิงและเด็กทารก และผู้ป่วยที่ยากจนไม่ว่าผู้หญิงหรือชายก็ได้รับการปฏิบัติเช่นเดียวกัน พวกเขาสามารถเข้ารับการรักษาตัวที่โรงพยาบาลและอยู่ที่นั่นจนกระทั่งพวกเขาหายเป็นปกติ พวกเขาได้รับการรักษาเช่นเดียวกันไม่ว่าจะเป็นคนในพื้นที่หรือคนที่มาจากต่างท้องถิ่น  คนที่แข็งแรงหรือคนที่อ่อนแอ  กรรมกรหรือผู้ดีมีตระกูล คนสำคัญหรือคนทั่วไป คนร่ำรวยหรือคนยากจน ประชาชนทั่วไปหรือผู้ปกครอง คนตาบอดหรือคนตาดี  ผู้อยู่ใต้บังคับบัญชาหรือผู้บังคับบัญชา ผู้มีชื่อเสียงหรือคนธรรมดาสามัญ คนชั้นสูงหรือคนรากหญ้า คนที่ใช้ชีวิตอย่างหรูหราหรือคนที่อยู่อย่างสมถะ เจ้านายหรือคนรับใช้ ทั้งหมดเหล่านี้ล้วนไม่ต้องเสียค่าบริการแต่อย่างใด เพราะทุกสิ่งคือการบริจาคให้อย่างบริสุทธิใจเพื่ออัลลอฮฺและด้วยการหวังการตอบแทนและความเมตตาจากพระองค์โดยการรับผิดชอบค่าใช้จ่ายของผู้ที่ดูแลผู้ป่วย เช่น แพทย์ จุกษุแพทย์ ศัลยแพทย์ เภสัชกรและโภชนากร  คนที่ผลิตยาขี้ผึ้ง(ยาที่เป็นครีม)  ยาหยอดตา  ยาเม็ดและยาระบาย  ทั้งยาแผนโบราณและแผนปัจจุบัน และผู้ที่ดูแลสถานที่ พนักงานทำความสะอาด ผู้ดูแลคลังพัสดุ เลขานุการ  คนงานและเจ้าหน้าที่อื่นที่ทำงานในโรงพยาบาลและทุกสิ่งที่จำเป็นสำหรับอาหารที่ใช้เลี้ยงผู้ป่วย เครื่องดื่ม ยาหยอดตา ยาเหน็บช่องคลอดหรือทวารหนัก ขี้ผึ้ง ครีม ยาน้ำ ยาสมุนไพรและยาแผนปัจจุบัน เฟอร์นิเจอร์ หม้อและเครื่องมือต่างๆสำหรับผู้ป่วย
