เมื่อเห็นว่าชาวมักก๊ะฮฺไม่ยอมรับอิสลาม  ในที่สุด  นบีมุฮัมมัดและสาวกของท่านจึงต้องทะยอยกันอพยพจากเมืองมักก๊ะฮฺไปยังเมืองมะดีนะฮฺ เพราะที่นั่น ชาวเมืองสัญญาว่าจะช่วยเหลือท่านและจะให้ท่านเผยแผ่อิสลามได้อย่างเสรี

ชาวยิวมีการถือศีลอด  นบีมุฮัมมัดได้สั่งมุสลิมผู้เป็นสาวกของท่านให้ถือศีลอดตามแบบชาวยิวเพราะในตอนนั้นยังไม่มีการกำหนดวิธีการถือศีลอดแบบอิสลามตามที่ปฏิบัติกันอยู่ในปัจจุบัน

ข้าวปริมาณดังกล่าวนี้เรียกว่า “ซะกาตฟิฏร์” ที่มุสลิมต้องนำไปให้คนจนก่อนสิ้นสุดเดือนเราะมะฎอน หากมิเช่นนั้น  พระเจ้าจะยังไม่รับการถือศีลอดของคนผู้นั้น  หากมุสลิมคนใดมีภรรยา ลูกและผู้อยู่ใต้การดูแลของตน  ในฐานะผู้นำครอบครัว มุสลิมผู้นั้นต้องจ่าย “ซะกาตฟิฏร์” แทนผู้ที่อยู่ใต้การดูแลของตนด้วย

If there was enough, the Muslim was obliged to bring about 4 handfuls of basic food that he regularly eats, such as wheat or barley. This is the measure initiated by Prophet Muhammad to lay the foundation for building the Islamic community. Zakat Fitr is what connects the wealthy and the poor. Giving must not expect anything in return, not even thanks from the recipient, because it is the right of the poor given by God. It makes the poor happy to have a feast on the day of Eid al-Fitr. Paying zakat-fitr is a duty tied to fasting that has been practiced since the time of Prophet Muhammad and is still practiced by Muslims throughout the world today and until the end of the world.
