นบีมุฮัมมัดเชิญจักรพรรดิไบแซนตินสู่อิสลาม

เมื่อนบีมุฮัมมัดเริ่มปฏิบัติภารกิจเผยแผ่อิสลามในเมืองมักก๊ะฮฺ  อาณาจักรโรมันไบแซนตินได้ประกาศรับศาสนาคริสต์เป็นศาสนาทางการแล้วโดยมีคัมภีร์ไบเบิลเป็นกฎหมายในการปกครอง

ส่วนอาณาจักรเปอร์เซีย มหาอำนาจคู่แข่งกับอาณาจักรไบแซนตินยังนับถือศาสนาที่บูชาไฟอยู่

 สารเชิญชวนที่นบีมุฮัมมัดส่งไปถึงเฮราคลีอุสมีข้อความดังนี้ :

 ด้วยพระนามของอัลลอฮฺ ผู้ทรงกรุณาปรานี ผู้ทรงเมตตาเสมอ

 จากมุฮัมมัดผู้เป็นบ่าวและนบีของอัลลอฮฺ ถึง เฮราคลีอุส

 สันติจงมีแด่ท่านผู้ปฏิบัติตามแนวทางที่ถูกต้อง

 ฉันขอเชิญชวนท่านมาสู่อิสลาม ดังนั้น หากท่านต้องการความสงบปลอดภัย จงเข้ารับอิสลามเถิด ถ้าท่านรับอิสลาม อัลลอฮฺจะทรงตอบแทนรางวัลท่านสองเท่า ถ้าท่านปฏิเสธ ความรับผิดชอบสำหรับการละเมิดของผู้คนในชาติของท่านจะตกเป็นของท่าน

 โอ้ชาวคัมภีร์ อย่าพูดถึงเรื่องความแตกต่างและความขัดแย้งกันเลย แต่มาตกลงกันในสิ่งหนึ่งที่ทั้งเราและท่านไม่อาจโต้แย้งได้กันดีกว่า นั่นคือ เรื่องที่ว่าเราจะไม่เคารพผู้ใดนอกไปจากอัลลอฮฺและเราจะไม่เอาสิ่งใดมาเป็นภาคีกับพระองค์และไม่ถือว่าผู้ใดอื่นเป็นพระผู้อภิบาลนอกไปจากอัลลอฮฺ

 ถ้าท่านปฏิเสธ  ท่านต้องรู้ว่าเราศรัทธาในความเป็นหนึ่งเดียวของ อัลลอฮฺในทุกสถานการณ์

Heraclius received a letter in Arabic which he could not read. So he ordered an Arab to translate the message for him. At that time, Abu Sufyan, the leader of Mecca and the Prophet Muhammad's greatest enemy, led a caravan of goods to sell there. So he was summoned to the throne of Heraclius to translate the message of the Prophet Muhammad.

Heraclius was a learned man and he knew that the Bible mentioned the coming of a prophet. But he doubted Prophet Muhammad's claim to be God's messenger. He therefore wanted to inquire about the Prophet Muhammad regarding the lineage, character, and popularity of the people and whether his followers were more or less in number.

Abu Sufyan thought of answering questions about Prophet Muhammad in a bad way. But when he saw his people there, So he did not dare to lie about the Prophet Muhammad. Because all the Arabs gave Muhammad the title “Al-Amin” which means “honest and trustworthy” because he never lied. If anyone accuses Prophet Muhammad of lying. That person will immediately become a liar.

Meanwhile Heraclius was considering the message and listening to Abu Sufyan's answer with a mind inclined to accept it. The monks who were with him at the time immediately expressed their displeasure as they thought that Heraclius would accept the letter's contents. One of the priests said, “He is calling us to abandon Christianity. Or make us slaves to the Bedouin who came to us from the Hijaz?”

Seeing the angry attitude of the monks Heraclius stood up in shock. But at the same time He knew that if he showed any weakness, The monks would abandon him and cause havoc by turning the kingdom against him. So Heraclius kept his feelings in check and wisely said to the monks, “I only asked him to test the stability of your religion.”

Most Islamic historians are of the opinion that Heraclius quietly embraced Islam for the sake of peace in the empire.
