Humans are different from animals in that humans have intelligence. Nevertheless Humans still need to have a manual or rules for living, both personal and social. Unlike animals, humans have the freedom to choose to act or not. As a result, humans are responsible for their own actions.
Humans have received religious scriptures from above for a long time. The oldest religious scripture in the world at the moment is the Vedas recorded in ancient Sanskrit. No one claims to be the author of the Vedas. The Vedas scripture is "Suthisan", that is what has been listened to and recorded in writing.
In Islam, God has chosen some humans to accept His Word in order to teach humans and follow their teachings. The people chosen to perform this duty in Arabic are called "prophets", which means "informants from God" to humankind.
