ตามหลักนิติศาสตร์อิสลาม ถือว่าการเรียนแพทย์เป็น “ฟัรฏูกิฟายะฮฺ” นักวิชาการในอดีตยึดถือว่า ในชุมชนมุสลิม จะต้องมีแพทย์ 1 คนเป็นอย่างน้อย มิฉะนั้นทั้งชุมชนจะต้องตกหนักกันทุกคน และทุกคนต้องรับผิดชอบร่วมกัน ในอันที่จะให้มีแพทย์ประจำชุมชน
