The universe, which consists of countless stars, coexists peacefully without chaos like human society because each star created by God is subject to the laws and patterns that God, the Creator, has set for humans to be able to calculate the orbits of the stars with precision. The Quran calls this law and pattern of God "Sunnatullah" that will never change, just like the biological laws and patterns that God created for the human and animal bodies.
The birth, aging, illness and death of humans are also laws and patterns of life that no one can violate.
Society and nations are like humans who are born, grow old, get sick and die, no matter how great a superpower that nation is. Egypt, Rome and Persia were once great empires that lasted thousands of years but still collapsed. What more can the United States, which is only two hundred years old, not collapse even though it has great military power.
The rise and fall of various empires in the past are phenomena that follow the laws and patterns that God has set forth.
The Quran explains the phenomena of the rise and fall of various nations in the past as follows: God created nations and kingdoms and gave them the factors that created wealth to test whether people would obey the moral laws and patterns that God sent through His messengers.
Moses was sent to Pharaoh’s Egypt, Jesus was sent to the Roman Empire. Both empires were wealthy, but God, the Creator of man, described one characteristic of man as “man always transgresses when he sees himself in great wealth” (Quran 96:6-7).
But wealth does not mean stability when man violates God’s moral laws by oppressing, plundering, and destroying God’s resources and human lives. Therefore, God sent His messengers to warn those in power in society. This is His pattern of dealing with man.
Moses was sent to warn Pharaoh with a mere staff that was no match for Pharaoh’s military strength. Jesus had no weapon when he went to warn the Roman governor, but God’s good intentions were seen as a challenge by the powerful and wealthy.
Not obeying the messenger’s warning is considered disobeying God, so God had to send a warning himself. This was God’s pattern.
Being human, Moses and Jesus could not resist the ruler’s power. God had to show His power through His messengers to the rulers. The staff that Moses held turned into a large snake in front of Pharaoh. The Nile River turned red with blood. Frogs and locusts spread throughout the city like the Egyptians had never seen before. Jesus received a miracle from God by curing the blind and lepers. Not only that, Jesus also molded clay into birds and brought them to life. This miracle was God's final warning. After seeing it with his own eyes, they still refused to believe it. Finally, God destroyed the nations and kingdoms that violated His law. Egypt and Rome, which had been great for thousands of years, finally collapsed. Moses and Jesus were sent specifically to the Egyptian and Roman kingdoms. Therefore, the destruction occurred only to that kingdom. However, the Prophet Muhammad was sent for all the nations of the world. When people around the world violated God's laws and designs, the destruction had to cover a wide area or even the entire world.
