The Quran calls this group of Aad people Aad Iram. which later became distorted into Erum and Ubar (City of the Pillars).
Ubar or Ad Iram used to be wealthy and strong in the past. It is famous for the production and delivery of frankincense. But the Aad people use their own strength to oppress other weaker peoples and violate every moral boundary because they consider themselves wealthy. The Aad people worshiped the idols they had made and regarded them as sacred.
Therefore, God chose Hud, a good man among the Aad people, as a prophet to admonish his people. Hood started admonishing the people first. “You shall worship nothing other than one God. for I fear for you the punishment of the great day.” (Quran 46.21)
“Have you built towers to boast, and did you build mansions as if you would live forever? and when you hurt anyone You acted cruelly and cruelly. Fear God and obey me. Fear him who gave you many cattle and offspring and many gardens and streams" (Quran 26:128-134).

Therefore, God ordered the Prophet Hud to bring the believers out of the city. The Quran goes on to say that when the Prophet Hud had left the city, Seven nights and eight days, seven nights and eight days of intense sandstorms continued until the city's people died like fallen palm trees and hollow guts.
Sand-carrying storms have engulfed Ubar, or the Ad-Iram community, thousands of years before the Quran received the Quran. Prophet Muhammad himself and the Arabs of his day or before had never seen this city in spite of what the Quran said.
God's purpose for telling this story was to warn the Makkah people who had resisted the Prophet Muhammad that before, the strong community was prosperous. but rejected the admonition of the Prophet, how shall the end be met?
